Anna Bri at the Laughing Ladies Cafe

It's about time I found a female MC that can represent hip hop in Seattle... even if she is only 19! I found Anna Bri through The Stranger and it ended up being one of the better shows that I have been to. I know she is going to cringe when reading that her show was good only because her family and friends were the only people really there but I had fun. When Anna Bri (aka Brianna) approached me before her show she was really shy and really nervous and it seemed that I was not going to have a good time. Don't worry mama, I had a great time. Even in an intimate atmosphere, Anna Bri went on stage with the presence of a young MC Lyte and spittin' lyrics that really got you into the music. "To fingers in the sky, say goodbye to the haters. Five fingers in the sky, say hello to the haters"... or something like that. To top it off, she does her own beats which reminded me of the Bay Area so I was in love! She had some difficulties with her sound system but it didn't really seem to faze her performance. Although she was getting frustrated, she keep the show going with soon to be club bangers "Go Crazy", "Bananas", and "Mellow". Anna Bri has already been featured in a magazine as well as been requested on the radio. If you get a chance to check her out you will not be disappointed. It's not every day you meet a young female MC that can really hit you with some sophisticated lyrics. I'm excited to see her grow and her style and beats evolve. I have a funny feeling I am going to be a fan for more than a minute.

To add to the awesome MC that I got to see, it was held in a great little venue called Laughing Ladies Cafe. This cafe is in Shoreline, I know a little out of the way, but well worth the gas. Offering everything from coffee (I mean quality good shit aka not burnt Starbucks) to food and even some select beers. I got to sit and chat with the owner Angela, who was just fantastic, and found out that the cafe hosts a variety of different acts. This would be a PERFECT place for a poetry slam (hint hint). Here you can also hang your artwork, if your an artist that is. Currently she has fantastic charcoal drawings of serial killers which are a controversy within the neighborhood that Laughing Ladies are in. Word on the street is that it's a very redneck area but Laughing Ladies are doing their best to bring a little culture and variety into the neighborhood. Viva la revolucion Ladies!
