Git down with Thao and the Get Down Stay Down

Check them out! As a partially Vietnamese person, I have a soft spot for indie rocker Vietnamese chicks. But Thao actually can play guitars and banjo like a real musician and sing with a sort of haunting soft smoothness. I really love how she incorporates the banjo but still manages to rock the song so it's not too folky, like in Swimming Pools.

This chick is pretty insightful in her lyrics and sings of her struggles with relationships, societal roles, bee stings and bug bites. But her band is pretty cool too, they come from a number of other bands, have jazz, and producing influences, and general radness. My fav, and one otheir more popular songs is, Bag of Hammers. There's two videos for it, see which you prefer:

I prefer the latter, but I have a soft spot for San Francisco.

Thao just did a solo show at the Vera Project March 5th.
