Welcoming Hicksters into our Homes - Maldives | Or, The Whale | Weinland

I believe Seattle has spawned a new subculture I'm coining as hicksters. These guys probably grew up in Seattle. Suburban white kids with wealthy parents just like hipsters. But, they're dressed like they came from a farm where dating your cousin is the norm. Your beard(like the amish) is never long enough. and the uniform consists of boots, carharts, and either flannel or a cowboy flair button-up. Little did I know, this definition is already on urban dictionary. Don't you hate when your ideas were already someone else's IDEA?

Headlining Wednesday was: The Maldives.(pronounced mall-deevs) They emit a strong sense of community on stage.  Everyone just kinda rocks out how they want. Sometimes it kicks ass, and sometimes the sounds drone on hypnotically. Stage left you see the accordion player half asleep, and the crowd is slowly bobbing as if they're attending a trance-trip rave. it was a rollercoaster of fun and yawning. Their last song was so engaging, the entire crowd felt excited and obligated to clap and dance to the music. I'd say this rollercoaster is common with the folk genre though, so I'd recommend seeing them. I'm actually going to see them again at birds on a wire.
The Maldives - Time is Right Now

Wienland played first, and openers usually don't get much love, but their set was short and simple. I was please to hear everything they played and because of the show, i've added them to list of bands to follow. Should I make an "official" list of bands to follow? their 'space

More than the others, "Or, The Whale" kept us movin' and groovin'. These guys kick ass. I heard someone call them "the revolution of fleetwood mac" and couldn't agree more. I do Suggest listening to their music!
Below they covered Britney Spear's Song "Toxic" and its freaking legit.. you can listen/download from us, or them
