Caribou: I Heart You

Canadian electronic artist and PhD posessing mathemetician Daniel Snaith aka Caribou has been making music before the times of our current electro pop trends. You may be more familiar with him as Manitoba before he was threatened with a law suit in 2004 for using the name that conflicted with the branding of punk jazz musician and radio personality Richard "Handsome Dick" Manitoba. Daniel released his first EP (People Eating Fruit) in 2001 as Manitoba, and his last release (She's the One) as Caribou in 2008.

Caribou shows have been called nothing less than monumental psychadelia; an experience that brings you back to your first days of going to concerts when every strum of the guitar had body rocking energy that melted your spine and glued your shoes to the floor. He performs with a live band, often playing percussion (math nerd), and apparently loves to incorporate video into the show so it's pretty stimuating visually as well. Unfortunately for Seattleites, Caribou is on a European tour and won't be West Coasting it any time soon. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

He's got an upcoming release, Swim, to be released on April 20th on Merge Records. I'm stoked to listen to it. I'm pretty obsessed with the interweb released, Odessa and if Swim is anything like this song, it's going to be amazing. Get a free download of Odessa now from his site. Watch the video for Odessa (which is pretty funk'n cool) and check out the 'space. Cheers.
